Any parent who is not volunteering will not be permitted backstage. This includes during intermission.

You will drop-off and pick-up at the designated doors. If you have a dancer in a classroom, all pick-up and drop-off will be done at the classroom door.
-
You may not pick up your child, or take your child off premises during a show. Please remember backstage volunteers do not know all families, and will NOT release children during show times under any circumstances.
-
As a newly added safety procedure, this year each family will receive a color coded pick-up badge they will need for every Recital performance pick-up. Please limit the pick-up area to one parent to keep the area clear. A dancer may not be released without the color coded badge present.
-
If you have a dancer in the Loading Dock or Upstairs, all pick-up and drop-off will be done at the loading dock door. If you have a dancer in the Green Room or Small Dressing Rooms, all pick-up and drop-off will be done at the Green Room door. If you have a dancer in a Classroom, all pick-up and drop-off will be done at the classroom door. For Stage Rehearsal & Dress Rehearsal dancers may use the main entrance of the theatre. Dancers should NOT arrive in costume. Wear an oversized cover-up that is easy to get on and off without messing with hair/make-up. Pick-up after the show will take some time as we call out each dancer’s name. This is to ensure each child gets to their parent, so we ask for your patience throughout that process.

HAIR & MAKE UP
-
Make-up and hair should be done AT HOME before arriving at the theatre.
-
Girls should wear a middle-part slicked bun with a hairnet. Their hair has to last for hours while changing in and out of costumes, so please be sure to use extra hairspray and gel.
-
Boys' hair should be styled and out of their eyes.
-
For Girls - Neutral but prominent make-up should be worn, including foundation, blush, brown eyeshadow palette, eye liner, mascara or false lashes, and lipstick (Maybelline Colorstay Matte Ink #20 – pioneer). The stage lights will drown out their faces, so a full face of make-up is necessary in order to see your dancer from the audience.
-
For Boys – please see us and we will go over what they need to do.
COSTUMES
-
Every single costume, accessories, pair of tights, and shoes should be labeled inconspicuously with your dancer’s name.
-
All large white tags should be cut out.
-
Find all alteration directions in the Parent Portal.
-
All dancers should now have the proper shoes in classes.
-
Dancers should bring a Labeled Tote to store costumes that will fit under a chair.
-
Recital T-shirts should be labeled and brought to every rehearsal and show, as it is worn for the Finale.
-
Please remember that you are responsible for purchasing any tights needed. We highly suggest getting more than one pair, so you have a back-up.
QUICK CHANGES
-
We will be giving out quick change forms soon.
-
If your dancer should have a quick change, the form will tell you which dances you need to pack separately and hand into their quick changer before the show starts.
-
Quick changes should be in oversized Ziplock bags and should be labeled with the Dancer’s Name, Dance Name, 1st or 2nd Half, Quick Changer’s Name
-
There will be labeled laundry baskets to drop the large Ziplock bags into BEFORE the show starts.
-
After each show, the costume needs to be taken back out of the bag, turned right side out, and properly re-packed.
BACKSTAGE RULES
-
No jewelry may be worn.
-
No nail polish may be worn on fingers or toes.
-
Dancers may pack DRY SNACKS and WATER only! NO PEANUTS OF ANY KIND. Please pack water bottles with lids that can be closed and not just a regular bottle of water that can easily spill.
-
Underwear should not be visible. A nude seamless panty and nude bra/ with clear straps are required.
-
Please be sure if your dancer needs a bra for any dances that it cannot be seen when the costume is on. This may mean having a different bra for specific costumes.

-
Phones/Cameras will not be present in any changing areas.
-
No Hairspray backstage – please make sure your dancer’s hair is slicked back with gel and hairspray before arriving.
DAY-OF BEST PRACTICES
-
Recital week is very fun & exciting, but also very long & tiring. Dancers should rest as much as they can during the day and maybe even take a nice nap!
-
While we know it’s summer, we ask that there be no long days spent in the sun this week. We don’t want any dancers to be sun-drained or even worse – sun-burned!
-
This time of year is not the best time to go to trampoline parks, roller skating rinks, or any other activities that could easily result in injury.
-
Hydrate – Hydrate – Hydrate and fuel their bodies with good food during the day so they will have the strength and stamina to get through the shows with ease.
PARENT VOLUNTEERS
It truly takes a village to make this show possible. Parent Volunteers are an integral part of our success. We are looking for dads to be a part of our stage crew who can work at each theatre rehearsal and show. Additionally, we need moms to help in the dressing rooms, quick-change, and bring dancers from their dressing rooms to the stage, etc. Daytime volunteers are needed as well to prepare backstage, dressing spaces, and breakdown. The link to volunteer is www.thedancecollabfl.com/volunteer. Please note that we cannot guarantee you will be with your child’s group. There will be a quick meeting for all volunteers on Wednesday, JUNE 10th @ 8:00pm at the studio.
STAGE CREW MEALS
We are looking for volunteers to provide meals for the stage crew and lighting technicians who work the entire week. We need lunches and dinners from Monday through Saturday. We have a sign-up form for anyone interested. The link to volunteer to bring a meal or even a dessert is www.thedancecollabfl.com/volunteer.
